Topic: Grace & Mercy in the Church
Introduction
Story: Death of Seminarian
I. What is Grace?:
Some say it is unmerited favor grant to man from God.
Some say it is a gift that cannot be earned
What is this Gift? –
a. The gift of forgiveness of our sins.(Ephesians 2:5)
b. The gift of Grace is Jesus (Roman 5:15)
Some time is seems as if some of us do not get any.
Body :
II. Grace Given: (Current events)
a. Plane crash on the Hudson- All survived
b. Survivors of the Haiti Earthquake
c. Survivors of the Mine disaster
III. Who gives Grace and why?
a. God give the gift of grace (Romans 12:2-3)
b. Because of His love for us he give us Grace (Ephesians 1:5-6)
c. For it is by Grace we are saved (Ephesians 2:8)
IV. Current state of Mankind
a. Violent crime:
i. Murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault- 1,408 million-2007
b. Property crimes:
i. Burglary, Theft, Motor vehicle theft- 9,843 million -2007
c. Accidents:
i. Fatal car accidents in the U.S. -39,189 with 43,443 deaths in 2005.
ii. Airplane Crashes -1,474 Accidents, 474 Fatal deaths in 2009 (AAS)
d. Diseases & Epidemic:
i. AIDS 455,636 recorded cases in 2007
ii. H1N1 2,117 death and 41,821 hospitalized in 2009
iii. Heart Disease death- 631, 636 in 2009
V. Do we Deserve this grace?: NO, but-
a. It is by his Grace saves us, that we are not consumed by our sins. (Acts 15:11)
1. He is the Potter that restores us.
2. He protects us for danger
3. He carries us through still waters
4. He restores our soul.
5. He market us to lie down in green pastures
6. He feeds us with water and bread
7. He prepares a table before our enemies and they cannot harm us.
8. He is our protector on our right-hand and on our left-hand.
9. So we can fear no evil as we walk through our trial and tribulation, because He is always with us.
b. Do not cling to worthless solutions? (Jonah 2:8)
Put your faith in Him today.
Will rely on Him Today?
Will you choose God to carry you through you deep valleys today?
He knows your cares better than you and He wants to help.
Let Him help you today.
VI. Difference between Grace and Law:
a. The danger of grace. Thinking that we are under grace therefore the law is done away with.
b. Paul notes that through the law we become conscious of sin. (Roman 3:20)
c. Sin still abound so we net the Law. (Roman 7:7-12)
d. It is Jesus that rescues us from this sin (Roman 7:21-25)
e. Example of Driving car and Judge pardoning you.
VII. Three question today:
a. Do we need His Grace today?
i. Yes, for where I can keep the law for myself, I need his grace.
For where the law is powerless, I need Grace (Roman 8:1-4)
ii. We need His Grace today to live.
b. Is His Grace sufficient for me today?
How can I receive His Grace? (Romans 5:1)
i. Come to Jesus
ii. Turn your life over to Him.
iii. Give Him your cares
iv. Your worries
v. Your concerns and anxieties
vi. If He is calling you today, come.
c. Remembering when sin increases, grace increased all the more (Roman 5:20-21).
d. This does not mean we should sin to receive grace. This would be wrong. We should stop sinning when we find Jesus.
e. We can come to him with confidence (Hebrews 4:16) ; Matthews: 11:28
