Introduction:
I.                   What is the definition of Truth?
a.       The Post modern mind is in search for truth.
b.      To then truth is relative.
c.       It is what an individual wants it to be.
d.      However we struggle today to reclaim real or absolute truth.
e.       We are living in an age of constant and real time information, which are available to anyone that can gain access to the internet.
f.        This search can quickly come up with their own definition of what they want to accept as truth.
g.       However, there is such a thing as absolute truth.
                                                                          i.      Truth defined: Is the conformity to fact or actuality; A standard proven to be or accepted as true.
II.                Can we trust truth?
a.       The post modern mind might say it depends who it is coming from.
b.      I will agree with them. If it is coming from their paradigm that they can trust it.
c.       But for a Christian trust should rely on someone or something greater that our selves.
d.      Greater that our finite mind.
e.       After all we are constantly making mistakes and correction to our beliefs.
f.        So can we really trust ourselves to arrive at the truth?
g.       Yes we can trust truth if is coming from someone who is trustworthy?
h.       Can we find anyone in the world that we will trust everything to, even our lives?
III.             Why do we need Truth?
a.       Truth is necessary for our point of reference, to determine what is good and what is bad. This is an intrinsic component of man. From the time of Plato until now man is constantly searching for the truth or what is truth.
b.      We need truth because it set us free from our ignorance of truth (John 16:13)
c.       We need a point of reference to define our existence.
d.      We also need truth to rely on so that we can understand ourselves and our surroundings.
Body:
IS THE BIBLE TRUTH AND CAN IT BE TRUSTED?
IV.              Can the Bible Truth be trusted?
Let us look at a brief history of the Bible
a.       Origin of the first five (5) books of the Bible: The first five Book (The Torah) was written by Moses in Hebrew. (1312 BCE ) Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, which consisted of the LAWS, HISTORY, and WRITINGS OF THE PARTRIACHS. Some scholar has tried to dispute this, but falls short of dismissing the historical value of the Jewish people lives and laws mentioned in the book.
b.      Hellenistic Period: Later the Septuagint (LXX), Greek translation of the Jewish scriptures, was written by 72 elders, placed in separate room by king Ptolemy, one of the successor of Alexandria the Great. Around the 300 to 200 BCE to rewrite the Jewish history. . This period was known as the Hellenistic Period. When the Greeks ruled the world. Alexander the Great conquered the world and spread the Greek language. The elders established the   text as near to the original as possible. It is the oldest of several Ancient translation of the Hebrew Bible. This was important because we no longer have any original manuscripts. For the most part the text is very close to the Hebrew. It consists of the Law, History, Poetry/Wisdom, and Prophets of the Jewish people.
c.       Jewish Independence: After Alexandra the Great died, the kingdom was divided between Egypt and Syria. The period of 323 to 166 BC was a dark period for the Jewish nation until they gain their somewhat independence around 166BC to 63BC. This was known as the Jewish Independence. Flowered by:
d.      Rome Rule: Rome eventually came to power around 63BC and lasted up to around 313 AD During this time the Jews revolted against the Roman and the Romans finally destroyed the Jewish Temple in 70 AD This was knows as The Jewish War The revolt was primarily due the fact that conservative Jews did not like the way their culture was being slowly wiped out and the constant oppression for the Romans.
                                                                          i.      Most to the account of the War and the after mat was recorded by one of the Jewish Revolvers who eventually became a historian for the Romans, known as Josephus. The significance of his works during this period, known as the Intertestamental Period, provided the history of the world from a Jewish perspective. This WORK PROVIDED VALUABLE INSIGHT INTO THE FIRST Judaism and the background of Christianity. (The birth of Christianity)
ii.      The historical work that Josephus did in the Intertestamental period was also important to history, because this is the period between the Old Testament and the New Testament of the Bible, where no other historical book has records of. His work showed a direct link between these two periods. His work also makes mention of a certain man called Jesus, who was a Jew and had some sort of uprising with the Romans.
V.                 The Latin Vulgate is an early 5th. Century Latin version of the Bible. It was the result of Jerome who was commissioned by Pope Damasus I in 382 to translate the Greek Bible, The Septuagint, into Latin. This translation became to official promulgated Latin version of the Bible.
VI.              Publication of the Greek New Testament. - It was printed in 1514, but published in 1522; waiting on the completion of the Old Testament portion and the sanction of Pope Leo X. Erasmus was the scribe, who worked on the collection of Greek Text and writing a fresh Latin New Testament in 1512.
VII.            Council of Trent in 1546 - the Bible was canonized (The Canon- the authority’s status of the final formation and collection of the Biblical books we have today. Consisting of 66 books; 39 from the OT and 27 from the NT) started around the 200 AD and ended at the Council of Trent of 1546 BC.
VIII.         King James of England wrote his English Version of the Bible in 1611.
IX.              Dead Sea Scrolls, 900 documents discovered in 1947 to 1956–included text from the Hebrew Bible. It is the oldest surviving copy of Biblical and Extra biblical documents. It is identified to be from the Essences sect of the Jewish religion. It contains the entire book of Isaiah, and portions of every other book in the OT except Esther. It pretty much agreed with the Bible we have today.
