Presentation # 11 - Grace Granted Tuesday 18, May 2010 Title: Grace Granted Topic: Sanctification
Introduction:
I. Set aside: Jesus Prays for His Disciples- His desire to set them apart from the world. He knew of the wickedness of the world, and He was concern of their safety and strength. He prayed for them: a. John 17:6-18 b. “Sanctification is a state of separation unto God; all believers enter into this state when they are born of God: “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). This is a once-for-ever separation, eternally unto God. It is an intricate part of our salvation, our connection with Christ (Hebrews 10:10).” http://www.gotquestions.org/Printer/sanctification-PF.html
II. Prior to Sanctification, we were lost. a. We are sinners and fallen short of the glory of God. We needed to come back into His glory. Romans 3:23 b. And we needed to be delivered for this sin, but how could we? We were lost and did not even know that we were lost. We were trapped and doomed to die in it. Romans 7:24. III. Christ coming was to show us the way. a. Jesus had to show us the way, He had to lead by example, He had to work within us. We had no way of knowing how to be saved from our sins. Philippians 1:6. b. We can never take ourselves out of sin. We cannot work out our way out of sin. Not because we cannot take ourselves out of sin we give up here. It is not us that do the good, but Jesus. We cannot keep the law of God without Jesus. We are weak in doing so. We must surrender to Jesus and He keeps us. We are to look onto Jesus Christ to have this done. Jesus not only takes us from sin and keeps us from sinning, HE also take away our present sin. c. Jesus takes away our present sins. 1 John 3:3-6 O’ The Jesus the sin bearer of our sins. Cast our sins upon him, He can bear as much of our sin than we could even imagine. The thief on the Cross is a good example of Jesus bearing the sins of a man. But so much miraculous, He takes away the sins of the world. “ Here comes the Lamb that takeths away the sins of the world. ' John 1:29-30 d. Jesus also gives us victor over our sins. 1 Corinthians 15:55 e. Then with victory over our sins, He sets us apart with the truth of His words. John 17:17 A truly sanctified individual, who is set apart has the word of God in Him or Her. VI. Why sanctification? a. God people are a peculiar people. They are in the world but not of the world. They must be an example of the goodness of Christ. They are to live to bring other to Christ. b. We are chosen by Jesus for a special work. The work of salvation. We are to proclaim the message (gospel) of Jesus Christ. The good news of the saving of mankind by the gift of Jesus Christ, as our savior. We are God‘s true followers and his holy followers. c. He created a new heart in us. We are sanctified through Him for his purpose. Thank God. i. 2 Thessalonians 2:13 ii. Hebrews 9:13 iii. 1 Peter 1:2
