Presentation # 12 - Saved by Grace Wednesday 19, May 2010
Title: Saved by Grace
Topic: Salvation
Introduction:
I. What is Salvation?
a. Being delivered and or saved from sin.
i. The question is -Are we in sin?
Romans 3:23
We are all sinners. We were born in sin. Romans 5:11-13
Our sin was given to us through our forefathers, and as we live we take on sins of our own. Hence we inherited it and we adopted it.” We cannot escape it. Romans 5:14
We should not love this sin, because it the result of sin is death.
We experience two types of death when we sin:
First, if we are alive and desire to continue sinning, to continue living in sin then we are death to righousness. We then are a living dead. Romans 6:16
-Our concensence is dead to what is wrong or right. Romans 7:11
-Our moral compass becomes off
Romans 7:13
-And we find it difficult to determine what is wrong or right.
Secondly, if we die in our sins, then we will be faced with the second death at the resurrection. The eternal death is forever. Romans 8:13
II. Why do we need Salvation?
a. We need salvation because we need to be saved from our sin. Sin leads to death. God does not wish that any of His children die. The wages of sin is death. God said to Jeremiah .Jeremiah 31:3
b. God’s love is inconceivable. He knows what sin brings. He know what the sting of death is, because He felt it through His son, Jesus Christ, and He would not like any of his Children to go through it. Therefore He has prepared a way of escape for us.
i. Matthew 1:21
III. How are we saved from sin; how do we obtain Salvation?
a. Many have demised ways of being saved from their sins. Some religions have come up with interesting ways of obtaining salvation.
b. The underlining challenge is whether salvation is obtained by WORKS or FAITH.
c. Some churches believe that we need to do work in order to please our God. The more work we do the more merits we earn towards our salvation and if we run short of our merits we can buy some from someone else that has more than enough. Someone like a Saint.
d. Other believes that the ordered ritual we do, in a set particular order we will achieve salvation.
e. Still others believe, as the Middle Eastern cultures, that we need to do good deeds, and as we do good deeds, when we die, we come back at a higher level in life. This continues, a form of reincarnation, until we have achieved the highest level in life, which is novena. This novena is salvation. One cannot determine when they reach it but they must continue to try.
f. And some believe if they return to Ethiopia they will achieve salvation.
The underlying factor is that, they are some sort of work involved to achieve salvation.
But works cannot save us. Ephesians 2:8-10
Out works are like filthy rags. It is by believing in God that we are saved.
Romans 4:1-3
Believing God means, believing that His son, Jesus Christ, is the way to be saved.
1. Romans 5:8
2. Acts 4:12
3. 1 John 1:9
4. John 1:12
5. The question is how do we receive Salvation, Through the confession of our sin to Jesus Christ, accept the blood of his sacrifice, Accept his as our LORD and SAVIOR and we shall be saved. Acts 3:19
6. Nothing else. No works, No payment, No rituals. Absolutely Nothing.
i. It is when we accept Him, and we want to thank him, then we do the work, in appreciation for what He has done for us and not for him to do something for us. On work is the outward demonstration of our commitment to him through Baptism. Mark 16:16
IV. Where do we receive this Salvation?
a. Go to Jesus. Fall on your knees and confess where ever you receive his conviction. He stands ready to save us. His saving will last to the end. We need not do anything to continue this saving grace.
b. It is Him alone and only Him through whom we are saved. No other, gods, man, practice, rituals, nothing. Nothing.
c. Let no man deceive you. Follow no man. IF Jesus does not say it in His word, and he does not speak on your heart, do not believe it.
d. There is no other name under which we can be saved except JESUS CHRIST.
i. Joel 2:32
ii. Acts 2:21
iii. Acts 4:12
iv. Romans 10:12-13
V. When do we receive Salvation?
a. NOW! When you hear the voice of the Holy Spirit moving on your heart. Harden not your heart. If you hear the word of the LORD speaking to you today. Today is the day. As has just been said: Hebrews 3:15
b. Hebrews 4:7
